All Together we bring peace, prosperity, unity, and cultural awareness to the community to overcome violence and come together for peace
our Mission
Tudo Djunto is a grassroots organization that began at MCI-Norfolk in 2014. It was founded by a group of Cape Verdean men who recognized the harm their past actions had caused to their families and communities. These individuals, both incarcerated and from free society, witnessed the senseless violence occurring across communities and state lines—violence that was tearing their communities apart. In response, they committed to promoting unity, peace, and love within their culture and among their people.
They asked themselves: What can we do to play a more meaningful role in the healing of our community—so people can live their daily lives in peace?
From that question, Tudo Djunto was born. Through simple, yet powerful acts—such as cookouts or sports events held inside prison walls—men who were once adversaries began to come together. These acts of unity created understanding, built trust, and encouraged effective communication and camaraderie. This is the essence of Tudo Djunto.
The movement seeks to inspire individuals—especially our brothers in the community—to break the cycles of violence and poverty, and instead, nurture progress and unity in the spaces where peace should thrive.
Tudo Djunto's mission goes beyond the Cape Verdean community. We aim to engage the broader community as a whole. As a subcommittee of the African-American Coalition Committee (A.A.C.C.), our goal is to unify our community and uplift one another through education, cultural awareness, and shared history.
